Happy New Year Brainiacs! I know I'm a little late in saying it but then again I've been away for awhile too. It's been a crazy few months for me. Here's why:
Back in June, my work was going through a reorganization, also known as lay-offs. Not the best situation to be in, especially when my name was on the list. Thankfully, my boss was able to save my job where he changed my title and job duties. Thus, allowing me to have 2 positions within the company. Another lay-off happened in October, which put my future with the company in jeopardy yet again. No worries though, I'm still employed!
Well... not exactly but it almost happened. As a docotorate student, the lowest grade I can get is a B-. Anything below that, I would have to re-take a class again. So... a class I knew I was going to excel in, didn't happen! My first paper, I ended up getting a 0 for it due to citation problems. DUH!!! Keep in mind, I've been writing and citing the same way since I started and then I get this professor! GRRR!!!! THEN... the second week, someone STOLE my paper and turned it in. AAAHHHH!!! Can you imagine what was going through my head?!? All in all, everything worked out. I ended with a B- and the teacher and I became good friends!
Late last year, I was borderline diabetic. I was able to reverse it by losing the weight. A few months ago I've been exhausted. I thought it was due to the fact that I carry a heavy workload. When I did my annual check-up in November, I was told that my hormone levels were high. Yikes! It's probably because I'm old! Well... come to find out, I have thyroid disease. That explains everything!!
So, now that the New Year is here, I'm not one to dwell on the past. With all the craziness of last year, why not make some lemonade with it? Yes... lemonade! So this year here's what I plan to do:
I've been laid off 3 times in my lifetime. 2 of those times, I moved to a different state, even out of country! Therefore, before another lay off happens, I plan on going back to Las Vegas, NV. and do what I do best - work at the casinos and train employees to reach their full potential!
This one is a 2-parter. First off, I do not give up! So, when I signed up to pursue my Ph.D in I/O Psychology, I plan to finish it! The objective is not to become the future Dr. Dy but to make the world a better place through the research I will do in organizations. Also, with the diagnosis I received, I plan to learn more about thyroid disease and hope to conquer it and win in the end!
So, not really a New Year's resolution, but it something to necessarily strive for in 2014. Happy New Year Brainiacs !
