A Few Things to Learn from Lady Gaga

From Google Images

I will admit I am not much of a fan of lady Gaga. However, as a blogger I do have to admire her for her marketing capabilities. Let's face it, she has over 50 million people following her on Facebook and over 30 million on Twitter. With that said, she must be doing something right! So, as a blogger, I needed to find out what she's doing so I can be the Lady Gaga of Blogging. Well, not really but it would be nice to know how she did it. So here is what I found:

1) Be True To Yourself  So we've seen the infamous meat dress (pictured above), putting her piano on fire, and the outlandish videos she has made. The thing is, she's weird and she knows it too! Lady Gaga stays true to who she is, even her song lyrics suggests it, hence - Born This Way!

2) Social Media Lady Gaga definitely knows how to use social media. She has millions following her on Facebook and Twitter. On top of that, she has a website for her die-hard fans called LittleMonsters.com. Fans set up profiles, post fan art and photos, message each other, and find links to concert dates.

4) Love Your Fans Lady Gaga has a name for her adoring fans, Little Monsters, thus the website on #2. In essence, a name gives your fans something further to join, to be part of, and to feel connected to. The simple act of referring to themselves by the name gives customers a strong sense of belonging. She also allows her adoring fans to record and distribute videos of her live concert on youtube.  If you think about it, everyone wants to be connected somehow and Lady Gaga did it! If it weren't for her fans, she wouldn't be where she is now... and she also knows that too!

5) Don't be Afraid to Make Money I was hesitant to write this, then again how did Lady Gaga get successful? Lot's of marketing of course! Lady Gaga is the queen of word-of-mouth marketing. She understands that you must continually give your fans - and everyone - things to comment about so that they have reasons to talk to others about you. She also find opportunity to finance her efforts. Have you seen her video, "telephone"? Check it out here and see all those products and endorsements that helped her out!

As a blogger, I can relate to what she has done to be a successful icon in the music business. Although I might not be as big as she is, a lot of what she's done can also be implemented. Don' worry! You will not see me where a meat dress, but I can definitely give y'all names... Brainiacs! Any lessons learned from Gaga?

  2. Seriously, that meat dress got her on the map, so as crazy as we think it was (and yes I do, too), it still got her noticed. So, I agree she does definitely know how to market herself and give her huge props for that!!

  5. Yup I definitely agree! And sometimes you have to step out of your comfort zone and discuss things that may not be the most enticing to talk about. I just wrote a post about my experience with a stomach bug over the weekend and it was actually therapeutic to be so candid! Great post :)

  7. I think the meat dress is great when you are in the zoo with the lions ;) But seriously Lady Gaga is one smart person she knows a lot about marketing her self. I read this once that the more people hate you the more people will follow you. I love your post Jessica!

  8. Clever ideas all around. You've come at this from an interesting angle.

Lady Gaga is definitely a smart lady, and she's learned a few lessons that other celebrities have found out along the way. The more outlandish and ridiculous you are, the more attention you'll generate. This is why when some celebrities start to fade from the news, they pull a dumb stunt to get noticed. (Urine drink, anyone?)

I don't think I'll be wearing meat dresses and rifle bras to promote my writing, but I'm sure we can come up with some ideas that are just as creative, right?
