Show Me the Money!!!

Money! Money! Money!

When I first started blogging, I never thought I'd make money off of it! Keep in mind, my whole intent was to get rid of writers block. A little over a month of going back to blogging, I made me some $$$$!!! Now... it's not a enough to quit my day job, but nonetheless I made something! How much, you ask? Are you ready for this? Take a DEEP breath... $8.00!!! LOL!!! I know! I know! I like to look at things half full so yes, I'm happy!!!  So... how did I make $8.00? Before, I go into any details, I am a newbie, which means I am not the expert but I do LOVE to share my experiences. Isn't that why we like to blog to begin with? So here are some of the things I've done:

This is also known as Ad Space! Sell some of your empty space to advertisers. It could be fellow bloggers, Etsy Shops (get an account!), anyone who offers a product or service. Do keep in mind who your audience is for your blog. For example, if you have a mom blog, would you advertise Budweiser Beer? You want your advertisers to match your blog. Why? Read the next part.

Affiliates
On the left hand side of my blog you will find some affiliates I am associated with. Also notice who they are - they match my audience! Affiliates are another form of advertising you can use by signing up with other companies who offer them. The common ones out there are Shareasale, Glitter Network, and Linkshare. They are free to join and you get to choose which company to affiliate with. When you find one, they can pay by clicks, sales, etc. generated from your website. Thus, the reason to match them with your audience. More money if someone clicks, refers, or buys something via your website!

Giveaways/Promotions/Product Endorser
I am fairly new to this one, however I have seen it worked! It's another way of selling ad space. Let's go back to sponsorships. Reach out to people who offer a product or service. You can always ask them if they want to promote what they're selling with a post from you about their product, do a giveaway, and heavily advertise them... with a price! Now... I want you to remember this... DO NOT UNDERPRICE YOURSELF! This is awesome advice coming from Mom Envy Blog. Even though you are a newbie like myself, don't let that be an excuse to lower your advertising price. Mom Envy had excellent advice for me, offer a one year ad price. She charged businesses $250 for one year. Not bad!!! Think of it this way, it's a Win-Win for both you and the business. You advertise them like crazy, bring them sales, and they pay YOU to do it. Pretty cool concept, huh?

Even though I wasn't looking to monetize my blog, I am happy I made $8.00 on it. I don't see myself making millions with The Wondering Brain but hey - $8.00 is STILL money! That's lunch for work. hahaha!!!  I do want to leave you with this though:  Think about why you started to blog to begin with. Keep blogging because of that reason, because if you start thinking along the lines of "Oooo... Money," blogging won't be as fun. It will become just another day job!!! And... who wants one of those?

  1. Shoot! $8.00 is a couple gallons of my milk! LOL! Way to go girl! I won't lie, I was super ecstatic the first time I made $ taking a survey of all things! LOL! I definitely want to monetize, but I am taking my time figuring out what I am doing, since I have about two years. :) Great post!

  9. Congrats!! This post shed a lot of light on some questions I was having about how to go about doing this. I was approved on the Glitter Network just now but I'm not sure how I feel about giving them my SSI for the W-9. I know they need it but it just makes me a bit uneasy. lol Did you feel the same at first too?

    1. Hi Amanda,

Thanks for coming by! I'm glad the post is helping out! I know what you mean about the W-9 thing. Thank goodness I have been working in Human Resources for a loong time. When you sign up, technically you are a representative for them. And with whatever you make we still have to claim it for tax purposes at the end of the year. Therefore, it's helpful to have it on file for Tax Day. Hope that helps!

    1. Hi Michiko,

Awesome to see you here and thanks for partying with the ladies at the blog hop!

  13. Yay! I found you through the Linkin' with my Ladies link up. Wait...that's a lot of "links" in that sentence.

Anyway, I found the link up because I follow a few of the blogs that were linked to this link up.

Frick! I did it again with many more times using the word "link." You could probably make more than your $8.00 in advertising just by charging me for every time I use the word "link." CRAP!

Okay, I'm not using the "L" word anymore for the rest of this comment.

I'm happy to have found several of you. Although I do enjoy mommy blogs, I don't have kids and sometimes I want to read about random things going through someone else's head...which is why this appears to be a good match.

I added you on Blog Lovin' because I love how I can read all of my blogs in one spot.

CRAP! Now I sound like a fricking advertisement for Blog Lovin'. I'm going to stop writing before I use the word "link" again. I will probably get caught in your spam filter anyway.

    Link.

My hubby and I were both laid off and had to use our retirement fund so I am trying to still retire on time and work at home, all though I will not retire for several yrs yet I am working on building my blog up. I have been learning a lot. I only been blogging for 6 months and I am going to start putting it out there. I find it hard to keep up with it all. 1. Hi Chuck Lane! $4 is cool! Please try the other affiliates too. It doesn't hurt to see what you can earn from them :). Try looking for small businesses too and ask if you can help them advertise. Don't short sale yourself though :). Remember you're doing all the marketing for them ;). I look forward to reading more of your successes!
