A Newbie's Reflection on Blogging

As a new blogger I am always looking for opportunities to gain exposure, readership, and ultimately followers of The Wondering Brain. As I am learning the ropes of my new world of blogging, a theme eventually emerged - Relationships! Yes, it comes down to that - Make friends with your fellow bloggers :-). How do you look for them?

Seek other bloggers out
This was a trick I learned in business school - People don't find you, you find them. There are 1000's of bloggers just like you waiting to be "discovered." Do a Google search and you'll find lots of blogs in just about anything. Click on one of them and start "getting to know" the blogger.

Leave your mark
Don't just peek inside a blog, leave a comment too! Personally, I love comments on The Wondering Brain because I felt like my reader cared enough to write something for me. It's like getting a Hershey's Kiss each time someone writes a comment :).

Diversify
Find other bloggers from different niches. It's always nice to see how other people write on a whole different subject. Remember now, You also need some content to write about too. Sometimes, stepping away from what you know can encourage your creativity by looking at a different point of view. Plus, it never hurts to make new friends in other avenues of blogging!

Blog Forums & Blog Groups
In a week since I've been back at blogging, I've "met" wonderful individuals through blog forums and special interest communities. So much so, that I have been invited to be a guest blogger! One in particular is a forum called
My Blog Guest. As a blogger, you can ask other bloggers to write a feature article for you or you can offer your blog for others to write something you want on your blog. What's great about this concept is the exposure you gain and a whole new way of getting an audience. Don't forget the win-win situation that you and the other blogger created together!

So, what are some "reflections" you've gained as an aspiring or accomplished blogger? I look forward to my "Hershey Kisses" :)

  1. I've actually been a blogger for quite a few years now, but didn't really 'reach out' to the blogging community until recently-- and I've met some really cool people! One thing that helped me with that was doing link parties and blog hops. I've never heard about My Blog Guest before- I think I'm going to have to check it out! These are some great tips!

    1. Hi Leia,

Thank you for stopping by! I think link parties and blog hops are awesome! I was happy to be invited last night :) I happened to stumble across My Blog Guest by accident this week. It's pretty cool to see all the "help want" ads for Guest Bloggers and others offering their blog for content. I was lucky enough to find a couple people to work with on there!

Thanks, again and I look forward to reading your posts too :)

  3. Great post! I love this point - It's like getting a Hershey's Kiss each time someone writes a comment. I've never thought of it that way, but it is so true! Whenever I get a comment, I just feel so special. I should do the same and post comments on other blogs too.

I have really started ramping up my efforts to get my blog noticed, even co-hosting blog hops, which is definitely a great way to increase your followers.

Thanks for sharing these great tips! :)

    1. Hi Natasha!

Thank you :). LOL! I'm glad you love the hershey kisses statement. It does feel good when someone stops by to say hi! Plus... in a way, when you leave a comment, you're technically advertisng your blog too!

I am so-o proud of you! When we first met in January, you and I were newbies! When I come back, you've got tons of followers. I call that AWESOME!!! I am following your lead too... Doing the Facebook Hop tonight. Hopefully I see you there. Have a good one!

  4. Hi Jessica,

These are great points. I agree Ate, you really have to reach out to other bloggers. Thank you so much for visiting Kusina ni Inday. Sarap ng feeling if you meet other Pinoy bloggers. I wish you all the best in blogging. Salamat din for joining Linkin' with my Ladies Blog Hop. If you need some help re your blog, I am just an email away. Kita Kits sa blogosphere :D

Btw, just a suggestion, turn off nyo po yung word verification. It will be easier for your readers to comment. Minsan kasi hirap i-decipher yung word verification or captcha. Just go to your settings under Post and Comments.

    1. Kumusta Judy,

Salamat! It was so-o nice to see Filipino recipes on a Blog! I live in San Antonio, so it's hard looking for some of the ingredients, unless I ask my mother in law to take me to the Military Commissary :).

I took your suggestion too. Turn off na :)See you in the blogosphere!

  7. I am sort of a newbie blogger myself and have spent endless hours recently reaching out to the entire blogging community. I still haven't entirely gotten the hang of things, but I am getting there.
