One of my goals this year is to consistently go to church every Sunday for spiritual rejuvenation. Usually, I am with my two sons every week; however, my older son decided to go to the singles ward today and my little son spent the night at his grandmother's house. This left me struggling to decide whether or not I should go. As I was in my pajamas reading through textbooks and articles, something told me I needed to attend. Off I went. At first, I felt strange not having my 2 boys with me, then realized that this was a true blessing. That something came around and told me that I was free from distractions so I can listen to the message today. The message from the speakers today was on the Holy Spirit and free agency. The best way for me to explain the Holy Spirit and what the message was about comes from Elder Richard's article:

"The gift of the Holy Ghost is as important to man as sunshine and water are to the plants. You take them away, and the plants would die. You take the Holy Ghost out of this Church, and this Church would not be any different than any other church. And it is manifest in so many ways in the lives and the devotion of the members of the Church."

Free agency is the ability to choose. In this life we have to make many choices. Some are very important choices. Some are not. Many of our choices are between good and evil. The choices we make determine our happiness or our unhappiness, because we have to live with the consequences of our choices. Making perfect choices all of the time is not possible. It just doesn't happen. But it is possible to make good choices we can live with and grow from. A choice involves making a conscious decision. To make an intelligent decision we need to evaluate all available facts on both sides of an issue. But that isn't enough. Making correct decisions involves prayer and inspiration. Free agency is an awesome thing to have. It is a gift that God has given us in life. Our gift to God is what we do with our life.

I can see why my "something" was nudging me to go today. That "something" was the Holy Spirit letting me know I needed to hear these messages in church. I do have the choice to hang out at home to enjoy my free day, but if I do, my spirituality will not be fed. I needed to go so that I can keep the holy spirit within me; he can guide me through other choices I may need to decide on later.

I am still learning how to conquer my struggles about going to church every Sunday. When I do go and learn more about the gospel, it makes me proud to say that I'm a +Mormon!
